HAIR-I-FIED!!!!!

Out and about doing the usual errands at the store and I came across this very hip young thang. This young lady aroused such interest that I just had to stop her and take a picture of her hair. I love how we creative souls are finding new way of beautifying ourselves.

The more creative the better.

I found her hairdo very err...refreshing

Heineken needs to hive her props as she's a walking endorsement

Inspiration is everywhere!!!! We have to give appreciation to the masters of the unconventional

The likes of Thandiswa Mazwai who is a fashion icon of note. Never a conformist whether it be fashion or  be it her music

Settling down as apposed to settling....the big question?

I had a very interesting conversation with a friend of mine this morning, the topic, my latest failed relationship. She has been with her man for about 10 years and is adamant that I will be single for the rest of my life if I do not accept the simple complexities of love and relationships.  Her theory is as a woman there are certain aspects of dating and love that we need to submit to. See, she is of the old school notion that mosadi o tshwara thipa ka bogaleng, loosely translated means a woman holds the knife b y the blade. Meaning, in a relationship, a women should hold on, despite all pains and basically Just Be Strong.....mmmmmmmmmh, I'm not sure I can be that woman despite the hope of having my own family, a husband and the kids and the dogs with  the white fence etc etc....

So I pose the question, as women and men, are we suppose to settle for any partner so that we wont be lonely for the rest of my lives? Are we supposed to get into substandard relationships and work on "changing"and "training" our chosen partners til death do us part? I believe that you can't change someone. Should your partner be an ass when you meet him and 5 years down the line he's a perfect gentleman then he decided to change himself for you, you influenced the situation but ultimately, he did it...some people still remain asses 10 years later, despite your best efforts,  just coz that's who they choose to be. Acknowledging that yes, no one is perfect, should we be quick to drop a relationship that's just not working or hold onto for hope that a better day will come and that with heavy work it can turn it into something we can happily be a part of.

On the flip side, if we are intolerant to certain traits and tendencies found in individuals we might end up being bachelors and spinsters til old age or divorcees. I mean unless we are lucky enough to find "the One" and live happily ever after, we have to kiss a couple of frogs and maybe one of them is a prince.

What requirements should a potential life partner have before you decide that he/she is the one you'll say I do to? What traits are you tolerating to be with the one you are with? What tendancies are you willing to overlook coz you love him/her? How do we find the balance?

Are we settling for the sake of settling down?

The Vagina Monologues - "UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS"

What a lovely evening Thursday, the 19th of May was. When the very talented Kabomo Vilakazi announced on Twitter that he was to direct the 2011 Vagina Monologues, I knew right then that there was no way Iwas to miss this empowering production and boy, am I glad I did!!!!! What a powerful and awe-inspiring evening it turned out being.

V-Day UJ 2011 presents Eve Ensler’s: The Vagina Monologues

The extraordinary Mr Kabomo Vilakazi.
BTW(by the way) his album ALL THINGS BROWN (songs sung) / ALL THINGS GREY (rap songs) drops on the 27th of July 2011

I gathered my gorgeous girlfriends and we head to the Con Cowen Theatre at the UJ Bunting Road Campus *side line memory to varsity days...huh, good times!!!*. Everything was run and organised by the University of Johannesburg students and send them a big high 5 and big up for running such a well run show.

The show promptly started at 18:30 with an incredible performance by The Muffinz, an awesome "live indie fusion band". These guys are gifted!!!!! I'll admit when they came out I was skeptical but after the first 30 seconds I felt bless to be in the presence of such gems!!

Brotherz ain't bad looking either....ahem.....lol

Live in PTA

LIVE LAST NIGHT!!!!!!

The world better makes space for these guys....they gonna be making our skys alittle brighter as shining stars!!!
Don't say I never warned y'all check links---->> http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Muffinz-Live/204722852893643      and      http://www.facebook.com/search.php?q=Muffinz%20Live&init=quick&tas=0.7111564241874955&search_first_focus=1305899905883#!/themuffinzband

The performances were riveting, moving, comical at times and they addressed issues on the agenda in way that enlightened and stirred everyone's inner core. I mean if you went in to see the performances and left without a thing to say, negative or positive, there must a short fuse in your brain circuit, come on!

There's just no way I can even describe how amazing it was to see and hear the monologues. They were so damn good they actually made me wanna stand up and pay more attention to my vagina, especially the next time somebody tries to love it/shun it/probe it/look at it/get all up in it/violate it...or any other woman's or child.  In fact I'm gonna go home, grab my mirror and have a heart to heart with my vagina. What I loved the most is Kabomo's statement "The conversation about gender based violence must never end until gender based violence ends"

And here's my 2 cents....

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN embrace all women, of all races, of all sexual orientations, from all nations, of all shapes and sizes.

Women love yourselves, love your body and LOVE YOUR VAGINA!!!!! Teach your daughters and sisters from a young age to be in touch with ALL of being from a young age so we can break the taboo stigma about vaginas. If they are knowledgeable they'll less likely be vulnerable to abuse and being taken advantage of.

Teach your mothers, grandmothers and older sisters that it'd never too late to break the stigma and silence around our feelings, our hearts and our vaginas.

Teach our young boys the value of a women and how to respect every single part of a woman, vagina included so that they don't grow up looking at it as something that needs to be conquered.

We need to talk and spread the word about these issues being ignorant never helped anyone grow!!!

Modjo Locks

So there I was on Tuesday running around trying to find ways to "fight the unjust system" with little progress I decided that I needed to show alittle love to my neglected dreadlocks. Every girl knows have your hair done will make everythang all right...or a little better anyway.

I have a very hott hair guy, I mean the man looks like he's one of the Marley descendants...mmmmh. Anyway, there I run to the salon in deep Joburg CBD, to my horror, he wasn't there!!!! Could he have forgotten our appointment? I mean how??? I am his favourite customer...this I know for a fact...don't ask me how (too deep, lol). So sadly I went off on my way, very distraught and my hair even more so than I til I remembered a new-ish dreadlock spot in Braamfontein I had noticed but never ventured in since I was oh-so-loyal to my hair guy. I decided that I should check it out, what did I have to lose?

This very stylish, very urban-chic spot is called Modjo Locks. Not only are they stylists but they offer their own manufactured hair care products which "are beneficial to ethnic hair by supplying the essentials known to enhance hair growth, improve hair texture, and provide a healthy scalp and balance moisture."

I loved the in interior; simplistic, bright, ethnic-urban chic, very open with the double volume ceilings, cool lighting features and so clean! They could put more artwork up on the large walls though. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel very comfortable which especially important since you are trusting them with your image (hair is very important).

I put some subtle colour in my hair and had it twisted real good with a few locks a bit loose to let me whip my hair alittle
(cues Willow Smith hit song Whip my hair lol)

So what y'all think?
