The talented Ntando Mncube

What a lovely enlighting night the 18th of May, 2012 was. I am not much of a fan of musicals but I walked out of the theatre with a song in my heart and pride in my soul. How ignorant I was about the life of Chief Albert Luthuli and was blessed to be a witness to his powerful history.

I was moved by how the story was told through music, song, photography and vibrant dance. There was a perfect balance of a sweet adhering love story between him and his wife, some humourous comic relief, and the serious, at times heavy moments looking back to the apartheid era and events that even brought a tear to my eye. It was a joy to view the major events that shaped our history and the great contributions and sacrifices that Chief Luthuli made were well highlighted with seamless effort and in a way that allowed the audience to be a part of the journey.

The entire cast expressed impecible talent and embodied the spirit of the time in a believable manner and were well deserving of the standing ovation recieved. It trully was a world class production and it is imperative that it is seen by our young people in schools as it not only captures the mood of the time but it gives homage to other struggle icons like Lillian Ngoyi and the womans march, anti pass movement, our former president; Madiba, and the role of the ANC as a whole.

The wonderful cast
